Paula is a 34-year-old freelance Spanish-English editor and translator in Cali, Colombia. She grew up around a church youth group where someone in the family always knew which hymn came next, and she sang in the back row through her teens without ever actually learning to play the keyboard up front. The piano stayed on a shelf for the next fifteen years. In early 2024 she bought a Casio CDP-S110 at the local electronics store on a Saturday morning, set it up at the corner of her dining table, and started giving the keyboard one slow Sunday afternoon a week. The church songbook is still the practice material she comes back to most often, but she has no liturgical role, no music teaching credential, and writes here only as a hobbyist keeping a diary across one slow learning year. She does not teach piano, has never given a lesson, and would politely refer anyone asking for instruction to a real teacher.
